Thomas Blais Prize – Presented by Desjardins

The Thomas-Blais Prize, presented by Desjardins, worth $5,000, enables an Ontario artist to undertake a creative, training, or professional development project.

Eligibility criteria

Anchor one’s practice primarily in the Canadian Francophone community. By “Canadian Francophone community” we mean the provinces where Francophones are in a linguistic minority. In the case of the Prix Thomas-Blais presented by Desjardins, the practice must be primarily anchored in Ontario.

Candidates may work in all areas of theatre: playwriting, directing, acting, set design, lighting design, stage management, production management, etc.

A person who has received a Foundation Excellence Award cannot apply the following year. However, they are eligible again two years after receiving an award.

A person who wishes to apply for a collective project in which other creators are involved in the very conception of the work must include, with their application, a letter signed by the other creators participating in the project stating that they agree that their colleague may apply as an individual, even if the project is collective.

Applicants may submit no more than one entry per award. In addition, a person may not win both a regional award and a national award in the same year.
